School is back in session, and we are thrilled that keiki attending St. Marks in Kāneohe, HI get to kick off the year with a brand-new playground!
Remodel Overview
The school’s old playground needed updated surfacing. Naturally, we provided materials from our partners at Synthetic Grass Warehouse that included an aggregated sub-base system to ensure the playground receives proper drainage. Proper drainage not only extends the life of the synthetic turf, it also helps prevent slips and falls after rain. We chose a thatched synthetic turf with Tiger Cool additives to help the play surface feel cooler to the touch during warm weather. As an extra safety measure, we used closed-cell foam padding to provide an additional cushion upon impact.
We happened to have some extra materials on hand that fit this project perfectly. So we decided to donate the materials to St. Marks to help the school save on the cost of their new playground—talk about a win-win!
For the playground itself, the play equipment needed to be suitable for a broad age range of 5-12 years old. Our go-to vendor for playground equipment is GameTime because they have a variety of play products that are inclusive of all ages and abilities while offering ample play opportunities for heart-healthy-exercise. The PrimeTime decks make it easy for kids to safely run to the next freestanding play activity with their friends.
Happy Educators & Happy Students
Can’t you see how happy the children are to come back-to-school with a new playground?
Hereʻs what the school had to say in their Back To School Newsletter to families:
“We are thrilled to announce that our new playground is complete. It is the culmination of a nearly two-year long process. The students gathered this morning as Pastor Dan said a blessing and we officially opened the playground for student use. While it will primarily be used by students in grades K-2, we are also opening it to grades 3 and 4. Mahalo to Darren Martinez from Inspired Play for partnering with us for this design-build. The students will assuredly enjoy this structure for years to come. “
Mahalo to Dr. David Gaudi and the rest of the St. Mark Lutheran School community for inviting us to contribute to this exciting back-to-school gift for their keiki!
